You can tell how much a country values the quality of life by its investment in parks. In our chat with Kring at The Greenerside Podcast, we shared how the Thai culture emphasizes well-being and work-life balance, and Rot Fai Park affirms it.

Not many governments would invest 150 acres of land in the city’s heart to encourage fitness and child-safe and friendly spaces. Yet this one, with protected bike lanes, rolling cycling paths, and working mini stop lights, was astounding.

Cycling Park in Chatuchak District, Bangkok

Vachirabenjatas Park (a.k.a Rot Fai Park or Suan Rod Fai), is one of the popular public parks in Chatuchak district, Bangkok, Thailand and is considered the city’s “green lungs” with its expansive greenery and recreational facilities for biking, jogging, exercise, picnics, and even bird watching.

What to See and Do in Rot Fai Park

Golden Sunflower Field: You don’t have to go all the way to Lopburi, Thailand, just to walk (or run) among the sunflowers! Vincent’s Choice Brown Centre breed was specifically planted for its absence of pollen, making it allergy-friendly.

Botanical and Herbal Garden: You can also visit the butterfly, botanical, and herbal garden open to all visitors of the park.

Cycling Track: Rot Fai Park offers a 3.2-kilometer bicycle track around its area, so cyclists can enjoy a scenic route in every lap.

There’s also a bicycle rental shop for those who want to explore the park on two wheels (or four for the little ones!). You can rent bikes for only 40 THB for 3 hours and a picnic mat for 20 THB.

Note: The Thai government announced some scheduled closures for park maintenance in 2024, so it’s best to check first before going.

Food Trip: No need to pack an elaborate snack because you can simply buy delicious snacks, meals, and coffee as you enter the park.

Visit Suan Rod Fai for a Fun Time Outdoors

Vachirabenjatas Park is our favorite park in Bangkok, and it’s the perfect place to spend a weekend biking with family. It’s frequented by joggers, cyclists, and occasional bird watchers during migration season. Visit early on weekends and take a little food trip before going around the whole park. It’s a day well spent! 👌

Operating Hours: The park is open daily as early as 4:30 am to 9:00 pm, allowing visitors to enjoy its amenities throughout the day.
