Here’s one thing to add to your Hanoi itinerary—The Hanoi Train! Although the Five Gates Hanoi Heritage trip is only a few months old since its launch (and still gathering enough reviews), we gave it a try for our train-obsessed son.

What to Expect from Klook’s Ha Noi 5 Gates Heritage Train Tour

Klook offers the “Hà Nội 5 Cửa Ô” train tour (5 Gates Heritage Train): a heritage trip aboard a double-decker train (yes, this is the train you can see in Hanoi Train Street) that takes passengers on a cultural trip from Ha Noi to TU Son Bac Ninh Province.
While the train gives a vintage, Wes-Anderson vibe, its two-story trains are full air-conditioned, fairly comfortable seats for the 3.5 hour ride, complete with charging stations.
Ha Noi 5 Gates Heritage Train Tour Schedules
You can choose from two different departure times. We opted for the afternoon train schedule so we don’t have to hurry so much in the morning. But it was quite hot–something to consider during the intense summer times in Vietnam (around May to August).
Morning: 8:00 AM (Mondays to Sundays)
Afternoon: 1:30 PM (Saturdays and Sundays only)
Return Times: From Từ Sơn: 10:30 AM and 5:00 PM
Duration: Approximately 3.5 hours for the whole trip
Ticket Price
How much is the ticket price for adults at the Ha Noi 5 Gates Heritage Train Tour? There are 2 options, and unfortunately no discounts for kids.

The price increases when you book closer to the date. Plan to book tickets at least 3 days before going to the Klook experience.
The On-board Experience in Ha Noi 5 Gates Heritage Train Tour
Ha Noi 5 Gates Heritage Train Tour includes a curated on-board experience for its passengers including cultural performances of traditional Vietnamese Music (Quan Họ, Ca Trù, and Chèo) and stops along the way, including Đền Đô, where we got off the train, boarded a bus, and had free time to explore the historical site with the origins of the Lý Dynasty.
Our Review of Klook’s Ha Noi 5 Gates Heritage Train Tour
What we noticed while on board the Ha Noi train tour is that there were more local passengers compared to foreign tourists. This may be because this Klook activity is fairly new. It was nice to see how the Vietnamese love their own culture and sang and danced along the performances.
The experience wasn’t bad compared to its price. We honestly didn’t expect much from the tour and would give the experience a decent 4/5 stars. It’s a straightforward itinerary for tourists who just want to have a chill cultural experience. We would have loved it if the windows were more clean so we could get a better view of the sites. The service was good and the train was clean. Do make sure to have a full meal before boarding the train. The refreshments served were just light.
